Weight Loss Doctor Fran Bruce
What does a Weight Loss Doctor do?
I see Wesley Weight Management Clinic clients prior to the commencement of their weight loss program. I gather a comprehensive medical history and perform a physical examination, and then share the results with our Dietitians to ensure safe and healthy weight loss. Sometimes I need to alter a client's medication dosage or liaise with their treating Doctor; and on occasion I may need to request additional tests such as ultrasounds or ECGs.
Can people join a Wesley Weight Management Clinic weight loss program if they have an existing medical condition?
Absolutely! What we are trying to help people achieve is better health; physically and emotionally. There are very few medical conditions that would exclude someone from being able to participate in our weight loss program.
What are some of the most common health conditions that are alleviated by weight loss?
Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea and fatty liver disease have been shown to improve with weight loss and maintenance of a healthy weight. Studies are also being published that show a reduction in cancer risk. Our clients commonly report improvements in gastro esophageal reflux and lower back pain. We also acknowledge that weight loss reduces the symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress.
How do you work with your clients' Dietitians, Exercise Physiologists and Psychologists?
At every consultation, our health professionals record detailed notes on an integrated electronic patient management system. I access these notes to respond to ensure safe and healthy weight loss. I am very proud of the attention to detail that all of my colleagues show when looking after our clients.
When do you see clients?
I see clients when they are entering the maintenance phase of their weight loss program, and then again prior to the completion of their program. At these appointments we discuss the results of additional blood tests and note any health improvements such as reduced cholesterol levels or blood pressure.
