Hectic Lifestyle No Barrier to Weight Loss

Truck driver Christopher Latter lost 77kgs at the Wesley Weight Management ClinicTruck driver Christopher Latter is living proof that a hectic lifestyle is no barrier to weight loss. Christopher lost half his body weight in 10 months while driving the Brisbane to Melbourne haul.

Brisbane local Christopher said he owes his amazing 77 kilogram weight loss to Wesley Weight Management Clinic's team of Doctors, Dietitians, Exercise Physiologists and Psychologists who tailored his weight loss program to suit his job.

He said he had always been "a big fella" but had steadily gained weight over the past five years as a result of his job changing.
 
"In the past I got a lot of exercise loading up the trucks, then I started driving longer distances and longer hours and wasn't involved in loading anymore."

"Driving 70 hours a week didn't leave much time for exercise, or so I thought, before I joined the Wesley Weight Management Clinic."

"Before signing up for my weight loss program, while I was at a truck stop or waiting to load I used to read the paper or have a nap. "They got me going for quick power walks around the town," he said.

Christopher said the Wesley Weight Management Clinic Dietitians helped him change his diet so that he could eat healthily while on the road without getting hungry.

"They got me swapping my usual bacon and egg rolls for meat and salad sandwiches on wholemeal bread," Christopher said.

"I never used to eat sandwiches, but now I love them. I also have two high energy healthy snacks a day and am never hungry," he said.

"The things they taught me about food were just amazing. Food is like fuel, you can get more out of it if you employ the right strategies.

"To get better fuel efficiency driving a truck you don't drive too hard or fast, you don't over rev the truck and make sure you have the right tyre pressures. It's about employing the best mix to get the best result.

"It's the same with food. If you eat the right mix of foods you can get more energy on 1800 Calories a day than 4000 Calories a day (which is what I used to consume)."

Christopher said when he stopped doing the long haul route and started driving his truck locally, the health professionals tailored his weight loss program to suit his new lifestyle.

"My Mum was also a great help. She'd want to know what my Dietitian was telling me and when she made me a meal she made sure I only had 150g of meat and lots of veggies."

Christopher said that his weight loss program gave him the tools and confidence to maintain his healthy weight for life.

"I didn't make radical changes to my life that I wouldn't be able to continue after my weight loss program. The Clinic gave me a set of achievable guidelines that I can follow for years to come," he said.

"They taught me that I can have anything and everything in moderation. I still have a chocolate and ice cream every now and again, but not in the amounts that I used to. 

"I'm a different person now. I eat healthily and always make exercise a part of my day."

Christopher said he loves the energy he now has and the fact that he can now walk into any clothing store and buy what he wants off the shelf.

He said it's also a great feeling knowing that he's inspiring his friends and other truckies to take charge of their weight and their lifestyles.

"My Doctor even has a picture of me on his wall, I'm pretty proud about that!" he smiled.
