Up on the Priority List, Down on the Kilos
With a passion for helping other people, Sunshine Coast resident Jill Clements-Kennedy spends her time volunteering at her local lifeline store while caring for her Vietnam veteran husband at home and supporting her three daughters.
When 59 year old Jill decided to lose weight, Wesley Weight Management's Sunshine Coast Clinic was at the top of her priority list: however her personal goals and aspirations were at the bottom of that same list. She comments,
"I was so focused on making sure my husband and the girls were ok; my own needs were the last thing on my mind."
Wesley Dietitian Tim Black told Jill that to lose weight for life she needed consider her own needs - as well as other people's. From the outset, Tim encouraged Jill to decide what she wanted and set tangible goals to achieve her goals. Jill smiles,
"I lost 26kgs, a weight loss which I have maintained to this day (six months later). All it took was considering my own needs and absorbing Tim's support and advice along the way.
"My blood pressure and cholesterol levels are down, and as a result of my health improvements and weight loss I can devote even more energy to my family!"
With an academic background in physiology, Jill had always assumed that she would know how to lose weight on her own. However she struggled to maintain any weight loss she achieved,
"Intellectually I understood what I had to do; however where I fell down was trying to put my knowledge into practice.
"When I joined the weight loss program at the Wesley Weight Management Clinic I learned how to exercise for weight loss and incorporate it into my daily life. I now look forward to my daily walk along the beach!"
The newly revitalised and glamorous Jill, adorned in a vibrant halter neck dress and matching gold earrings, certainly made an impression amongst her friends at Melbourne Cup day. She smiles,
"That day was about me; celebrating what I had achieved and enjoying the feeling of being a bright spark in the room."
Typical of Jill's concerning nature and drive to help other people, she makes one final comment,
"I truly hope that my experience at the Wesley Weight Management Clinic will inspire other people to strive for a healthier self."
